What does the Minimum markup threshold warning mean?

KB423

Overview

When you update a Sales order, Sales quotation, or Sales invoice after adding an item and lowering its default sell price, you may see a warning alerting you of the item’s Minimum markup threshold.

That warning will look like this:

Why does the warning appear?

This warning means that the sale price of the item does not meet the minimum markup threshold that has been set either for the item itself, its Product group, or in your System Preferences.

For a thorough breakdown of how the Minimum markup threshold works, please see the Minimum markup threshold.

How to proceed

There are two ways to proceed when you receive this warning:

Change the item price

If you want to abide by the warning, you can note the specified “Cost + Markup” price displayed in the warning box, then click “No”, and change the price of the item to be no less than the “Cost + Markup” price.

You should then be able to transact this item without receiving further warnings

Override the warning

If you want to sell the item at your specified price regardless of the Minimum markup threshold, you will either need to possess administrator permissions yourself or request an administrator override.

If a user without administrator permissions receives this warning, they will still be able to click “Yes” to proceed, however will receive a popup box alerting them that the action must be approved by an administrator. This override box will display a drop-down list of administrators, and once an administrator is selected, they can input their Accentis password to perform the override.

With administrator permission, the transaction will then be completed with your original price.

Exceptions to the administrator override

There are two situations when a user can proceed through this warning without requiring an administrator override to do so. These are:

  • The record being updated is a Sales invoice, and the item in question is linked to a Sales order line.
    • In this case, when the Sales order was updated, it would have produced the same warning, and an administrator override must have been performed already.
  • The record being updated is an unapproved Sales order.
    • In this case, the Sales order will still require approval before it can be processed.
