Why can't I FINISH a Work order: Not enough components consumed?

KB365

Overview

To finish a Work order, you must have consumed all of the components that are required for the Work order bill of materials (that is, if you are finishing 3 out of 10 items for the Work order, you must have consumed raw materials for at least 3 finished products).

If you have a look at the Kit list tab, and then make the window much wider or scroll over to the right, you'll see a "Qty short" column. If there is anything in this column, it means that you are trying to finish the work order, but for some reason, the Work order has been unable to consume the raw materials needed.

This can happen for two reasons:

  1. There was not enough of the raw material in stock at the time the Work order was started, or
  2. There is a mismatch between the "Qty kitted" and the "Qty per kit".
    1. The Qty kitted has been entered with a quantity that tells the Work order how many to consume, but this quantity is still not enough compared to the number that it thinks you need to consume (based on the qty per kit).
