Foreign currency conversion formulae
This is a list of common terms and formulae that are needed to convert from one currency to another.
Local value (LV) = The value in your current database’s local currency.
Foreign value (FV) = The value in the foreign currency.
Exchange value (XV) = The difference between your current database’s Local value (LV) and the Foreign value (FV).
Local exchange rate (LR) = The exchange rate to convert from your current database’s local currency to the foreign currency (i.e. how many of the foreign currency is equal to one of your current database’s local currency).
Foreign exchange rate (FR) = The Local exchange rate (LR) in a foreign database.
Foreign value (FV) = Local value (LV) * Local exchange rate (LR)
Local value (LV) = Foreign value (FV) / Local exchange rate (LR)
Local exchange rate (LR) = Foreign value (FV) / Local value (LV)
Local value (LV) = Foreign value (FV) + Exchange value (XV)
Foreign value (FV) = Local value (LV) – Exchange value (XV)
Exchange value (XV) = Local value (LV) – Foreign value (FV)
When converting a foreign database's currency into your current database's local currency, you can either perform that conversion using the exchange rate of the foreign database, or the exchange rate of your current database. Note that whichever exchange rate is used will determine whether you need to divide or multiply, and because these rates are not necessarily directly linked, they may result in different values.
Local value (LV) = Foreign value (FV) / Local exchange rate (LR)
Local value (LV) = Foreign value (FV) * Foreign exchange rate (FR)
