Workstation and Server Requirements
Overview
A traditional Accentis Enterprise operating environment consists of:
- A server machine running the Accentis Enterprise Server software.
- Multiple Accentis Enterprise Client applications communicating via TCP/IP and Network File Sharing to the server machine.
A more modern environment consists of a remotely hosted Accentis Enterprise server. Accentis Enterprise users connect to the server via remote desktop and run the Accentis Enterprise Client locally on the remote machine.
Server machine requirements
The Accentis Enterprise client connects to its own Microsoft Windows-based server program that controls and mediates access to the system’s databases. It provides in-memory record locking, archive facilities, alert notification and system monitoring capabilities.

Operating system environment |
• Incoming access to IP port 12000 (server’s listening port for clients). • Outgoing access to accentis.com.au on port 12001 (back-to-base server). • File sharing capabilities for the number of required users. • Remote desktop access required for support and remote clients. • Microsoft .Net 2.0 and 4.5+ required. |
|
Network |
• TCP/IP Gb minimum on all routers, hubs, gateways and switches. • Wireless networks are not recommended for direct access, only for a Remote Desktop or RemoteApp connection. • VPN – please refer to section below on VPN support. |

Additional hardware recommendations |
• Separate server machine for exclusive use of Accentis Enterprise • RAID HDD configuration. • 100GB free space for Accentis root folder and archives. |
|
Additional operating recommendations |
• Server machine must be left operating overnight. |
Client PC requirements
The Accentis Enterprise client software is designed to run on a Microsoft Windows operating system and accesses the Accentis Server program using a combination of TCP/IP and Windows file sharing to optimise database access throughput.

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
If a VPN is required (for security purposes or to accommodate existing IT infrastructure), then users must use Remote Desktop or thin client hardware to connect to the remote host over the VPN.
If you are in any doubt about these requirements or would like to discuss alternatives, please call our support team.
Barcode scanners
Accentis Enterprise supports integrated barcode scanning. All scanners used with Accentis Enterprise:
- Must present themselves to the client PC as a Windows COM port (either direct connection or via USB serial port emulation).
- Must be able to append a Carriage return/Line feed (CRLF) at the end of each scan.
Bluetooth or Wireless scanners are supported subject to the requirements above, but the operator must still be within sight of the Accentis Enterprise session for feedback from the scanning operation.
Multiple scanners connected to a single PC are not supported by Accentis Enterprise.
Remote Hosting and Cloud environments
Remote Hosting and/or Cloud operation is fully supported through Microsoft’s RemoteApp. Please contact our support team if you have any questions.
Additional Notes
Server notes
The server requires no more than 200MB for the software installation plus room for your database(s) and the daily database archives. Our standard installation will copy and retain 100 days of database snapshots so the size of the disk space available for the Accentis Enterprise databases, including nightly snapshots, should be between 10 and 50GB.
Timeclock PCs
PCs that are used exclusively for the Accentis Timeclock module need only the minimum PC requirements. Due to their remote location, Timeclock PCs may be run as Remote Desktop or RemoteApp over a wireless connection, but they must run the Accentis Enterprise application locally if the connection to the server is wireless.
Summary
If you have the Accentis Enterprise client program running on separate workstations and the Accentis Enterprise server program running on a dedicated PC, hardware requirements do not need to exceed those specified by Microsoft for the PC’s operating system. The server hardware requirements will increase with both database size (over time), other applications, and terminal services users, but by how much largely depends on the number of users and size of the applications the server is hosting.
For the server, put memory and disk I/O as your highest priority, a fast network next, then CPU speed last.
